In his first time on Fortune magazine’s list of the most influential young people in business, WeWork co-founder Adam Neumann landed in the top spot.
Others ranking high on the “40 Under 40” list? JB Straubel of Tesla, Ryan Graves of Uber, Logan Green and John Zimmer of Lyft, and Taylor Swift of…well, Taylor Swift.
Neumann and Miguel McKelvey opened the first WeWork collaborative workspace in 2010, and since then it’s expanded to 54 locations around the world.
Fortune focused on the company’s explosive growth, noting that the WeWork community now encompasses more than 30,000 members.
But from the beginning, Neumann’s focus has always been on how the company can help people “create a life, not just a living.”
“When Miguel and I started this company,” he said, “the intention was ‘Can we change the world?’”
