An ability to express themselves is one thing that builds confidence in students. WeWork recently partnered with Design Dance, a community of artists that helps students boost their self-esteem while they bust a move. Together, they put on an Entrepreneurship in the Arts program for students attending Chicago Public Schools. Calling the program “Working Together,” Design Dance brought students into WeWork River North and invited volunteers to teach them marketing, accounting, dance, design, and branding skills.
One of the Design Dance instructors, Gloria Mwez, describes the Entrepreneurship in the Arts program as a way to spur creativity. She explains how she wants to “give back some of the creativity I found in composing work and creating work to express yourself.”
Becky Thomas, communications and project management mentor, says she noticed that through the program, the children gain a “stronger sense of themselves and leadership capabilities.” In other words, students in this program learn how to thrive at working with others.
