“Game Changers” is a series in which we introduce products and services making a dent in the startup world.
Chances are, there are more than a few handbags taking up space in your closet. One or two are the practical ones you use all the time, while the others are fancier ones that come out only once a year for special occasions.
Wouldn’t it be nice if your everyday bag could do double-duty—functional enough for work, stylish enough for the evening?
Entrepreneur Joanna Lau recognized this problem, which is why she founded JEMMA, located at New York’s WeWork Park South.
The product
JEMMA sells premium leather bags for career-focused women. These fashionable bags can be used for the office or a night out, and go well with any outfit.
The inspiration
“Women are wearing more hats today than they ever have before—from college internships, to stay-at-home moms with a part-time business, to coffee shop bloggers—and they need something that meets their active lifestyle,” says Lau.
Why it’s a game changer
“There are a lot of beautiful handbags available today, but fashion trumps function far too often,” says Lau. “JEMMA bags are trying to fix that by offering new bags that are the right color, quality, and look of professionalism that career women are striving for.”
