It was a somber occasion that inspired Keverne Denahan to create KardZee, her app to simplify sending cards and gifts. After her parents passed away, the San Francisco entrepreneur was inundated with voicemails and text messages. But what really struck her was the hand-written notes delivered to her mailbox. “I still have those cards,” she says, “and I occasionally look at them from time to time for comfort.” That got Denahan, a longtime gallery owner, thinking about ways to facilitate the process.
Two years ago, the San Francisco-based WeWork 600 California Street member founded KardZee. The platform lets you send personalize greeting cards and gift cards, meaning you don’t have to worry about buying a card at the store, remembering where you put your stamps, and then heading to the post office. You can even write cards in your own handwriting, adding the personal touch that Denahan knows people appreciate.
“I love the tradition of sending personalized cards. I wanted to make that process easier for people.”
What are KardZee’s most popular cards? Not surprisingly, they’re the major milestones like birthdays and holidays like Christmas and—of course—Valentine’s Day. But what’s a little unexpected is the customer demographics. Men and women of all ages are utilizing the service. And many corporate clients are contacting her about the service as well. “People are tired of the white noise of emails,” says Denahan. “Businesses are approaching us to reach VIP clients and employees with physical greeting cards.”
