New York, NY – WeWork, one of the leading global flexible space providers, has announced that WeWork On Demand, an app providing pay-as-you-go access to workspace and meeting rooms, is now available in Canada.
Based on member feedback and return-to-the-office trends embracing the hybrid workplace, WeWork On Demand will be available in 12 buildings across Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Burnaby. WeWork locations participating in On Demand have various amenities for visitors, including unlimited coffee, video conferencing capabilities, whiteboards, outdoor space, bike storage, a mother’s room, and more.
“We continue to see strong growth in WeWork On Demand, so we’re excited to bring this product to Canada as the first market expansion outside of the U.S.,” said Doug Smith, WeWork’s Head of All Access & Marketplace. “The global shift toward a hybrid working model has accelerated the need for more flexible workspace solutions and by leveraging WeWork’s global portfolio, our On Demand product is uniquely positioned to immediately meet this need. As Canadians begin to return to the office, WeWork On Demand will help to provide employees with the ability to choose when, where, and how they work, right from their phones.”
“WeWork’s network across Canada continues to be the best workplace solution for entrepreneurs and businesses of all sizes looking to get back to the office,” said Stephen Tapp, WeWork’s Head of Canada. “As people are starting to reconvene, spend more time in city centers, and consider adopting a hybrid work plan, we have seen significant momentum and interest in accessing our space across the country. I’m looking forward to having On Demand as a fast, flexible workspace option in Canada for businesses, organizations, employees, travelers, students, and many others.”
As companies and employees plan their return to office strategies, many are looking to adopt a hybrid approach that enables greater flexibility and optionality in how they collaborate, connect, and innovate. Understanding the growing demand for optionality, convenience, and flexibility amidst the pandemic, WeWork accelerated its plans for digitizing its real estate portfolio through the launch of its On Demand product in the summer of 2020. Since the first pilot program began in New York City, WeWork On Demand has expanded to a total of 24 cities across the United States.
Over the past several months, as vaccination programs continue to roll out globally, WeWork has seen utilization of its On Demand product mirror similar growth seen across the company’s traditional space-as-a-service product. In April and May, WeWork recorded its strongest two months of net desk sales since September 2019. On Demand usage increased significantly in the same period in terms of new users and bookings. With the return to the office underway, people are booking conference rooms more frequently, hosting longer meetings, and meeting with more people. This behavior is driving a massive jump in conference room bookings, signaling that people are increasingly comfortable gathering in person to meet and collaborate on projects.
